wow i wish percy’s mental health was actually taken seriously in boo
are y’all forgetting the scene with Jason and Percy underwater where he doesn’t try to save himself at all because he thinks he deserves to die? Or the fact that boo takes place within the span of a few days? Both Percy and Annabeth are so focused on other things that they don’t have a lot of time for things to hit them and when they do have downtime, we see both of them starting to crack from the pressure.
I’m not. I’m on mobile so I can’t link it, but I made another post about that scene with Jason.
I hate that scene.
Percy was tense, he admitted that he thought that he should die and waited for Jason to say something. And he doesn’t. Jason doesn’t seem phased by the fact that Percy is nearly admitting that he’s suicidal. Then it’s never brought up or mentioned again. Annabeth’s PTSD was handled much better, she had Piper. But Jason was not there for Percy, and all we really got from Percy other than that scene was awkward and (honestly) slightly out of character jokes.
Percy always does this. He focuses on the most important or relevant thing, and for a single scene it’s his mental health and in my opinion, it’s handled extremely poorly. Jason, who I would’ve assumed would be a very supportive friend, brushed off Percy’s confessions and Percy put his walls back up. Which is not ok. If your friend says that they think they deserve to die, you say something, you tell someone. Even with only a few days and a war, there had to be lulls in conversation or downtown during like dinner or something. Even if the timing during that scene wasn’t convenient, even if they were worrying about being attacked, Jason should’ve said something, even just, “you don’t deserve to die.” He had time for five words. In my mind this:
“"No. I think I get it.”
Percy studied his face. What Jason didn’t say any more, Percy changed the subject.”
is not acceptable and not taking Percy’s mental health seriously.
